- Surveying wetlands along highways near Lincoln, NE. Lincoln, I’m quite impressed with your football stadium, and your downtown seems to be a lovely place to spend an afternoon.
- Throwing up on the side of the highway. This experience was lessened by having a coworker in the driver’s seat. No moaning and complaining allowed. No sprawling out in the backseat pretending to be dead. I’ve had the stomach flu twice in the past three years. Both while doing field work.
- Laying on a raft in my parents’ pool. Daniel and my parents and I hung out on Saturday and shared two great pizzas at a local winery north of KC. You know you are still in MO when the red wine comes chilled. The waitress set down our glasses, and my mom and I simultaneously said, “Oh, chilled?”
- Caddying for Daniel at a local golf course. He makes a pretty cute face when he sinks a long putt.
- Partying with my friend Gabe. His mom throws wild parties. Homemade piñata (adorable), cupcakes, and a celebration of Gabe’s favorite letter, W.
Mother’s Day 2012. A pretty perfect day at Loose Park.
So sweet.

An adoption agency came over last night and decided that Daniel and I are fit to be dog parents. We are very excited, and if everything works out, our bundle of joy will be delivered the first weekend in June. She’s a German shorthaired pointer whose approximately one or two.
It’s okay to change a dog’s name, right? I just don’t enjoy her first name, and it would probably cause me to love her less. Harsh. Daniel would prefer that she’s named after Wayne Rooney.
- The Juliet and Romeo cocktail at The Violet Hour in Wicker Park. Best cocktail I’ve ever tasted.
- I think I want to get more involved in local government. If I told you I was inspired by The Wire would you think less of me? I’ll need to start small. Maybe get elected to a subcommittee. I’ll be doing some research on where KC could most use me and my smarts.
- I’ve also decided that I enjoy yard work more than my paid position. Maybe I should start a plant nursery/consulting business. It would need to be a new take on the standard nursery model. Something that caters to a new generation of city dwellers.
- Brookside also needs a quaint donut shop. If you are interested in helping develop any of these ideas or would like to front some money, let me know.
- I’ve convinced Daniel and my friends Jonah and Lydia to take part in a Ghost and Graveyards Tour at night while we are in DC over Memorial Day. The tour guide dresses the part - I’m hoping Ben Franklin-like - and carries an old lantern while you explore the sites where the Founding Fathers once spent time. The tour ends in a graveyard. Daniel hates graveyards. To say I’m excited would be an understatement.
