Ideal Summer 2012
1. Making pottery with my dad with cutoffs on, music playing, and the garage door open.
2. Heirlooms, lavender, and peonies growing in my backyard.
3. Lemonade-mint-vodka slushies.
4. Bea home for the summer.
5. Lounging in a raft in my parents’ pool.
6. Splashing in my neighborhood kiddie pool with Austin and my nieces.
7. Hot dogs on the grill and confetti cake with homemade ice cream.
8. Bright...

On the Bright Side of Your Life
Work has been rough lately. My workload is slowly down, and I’ve been working on the same project for a month now. I’m running out of steam. I’m trying to stay positive, so below I’ve listed some of the good things happening in my life.
- Trader Joe’s Power Berries. After your second handful, just remind yourself that they do contain real fruit juice (inside the dark chocolate coating).
-...

Question
Daniel and I are traveling with friends to DC over Memorial Day weekend for a wedding. I know some of you live in or love visiting DC. Is there any place we must visit, restaurant we must try, or event we must experience?

Weekend
- Daniel and I fully intended to go to the movie theater, as we do on many Friday nights, but we inevitably parked ourselves on the couch and watched a move OnDemand. Drive was interesting. The movie swings between low-key, sweet scenes with very little dialogue to BOOM Ryan Gosling is crushing a guy’s face with his bootheel.
- I baked coconut macaroons for my dad and a chocolate chip...
If I had the ability to (work blocks all streaming media), I would provide Lauryn Hill’s Doo Wop (That Thing) for your listening enjoyment. So I encourage you to find this song and instantly improve your morning. It’s currently working at my desk.
Fun Fact: When I was a freshman in high school, I participated in speech and debate events at surrounding schools on Saturdays. Before and after...

Weekend
- On Friday night, our friend Logan invited us and two other couples to a wine tasting at the Cellar Rat. We enjoyed four wines, cheese, cured meats and crostini. All were delicious. I reached optimal tipsy level, and my DD even swung by the store for me to get Lucky Charms and waffle fries before the party continued at our house.
- I painted our hallway green. It’s pretty bright, and...
Thoughts
1. Our great friends, Jill and Rob, just announced that they will be moving to Europe this summer on a military assignment. I’m super excited for them, and I have been daydreaming about living in Europe ever since. I’ve visited Italy and Romania, and an extended adventure would seem just fine.
2. I did not enjoy The Descendants, and I don’t agree that the movie or George Clooney deserve...
Two things that make me anxious every single time
1. Catching the shrimp in my mouth when the Japanese steakhouse guy flings it above my head. Typically it smacks me on the forehead and then falls to rest in my lap where it leaves a nice stain on my clothes. During my most recent trip, I even tried to decline participation in this portion of the Japanese steakhouse experience that others, to my disbelief, actually seem to enjoy. The guy...

Wins
When I was in high school and a freshman in college, I used to keep a notebook that was a list of every good thing that happened to me during the day from the big to the small. I still have the notebook somewhere, and the final entry probably says something like:
- didn’t die during my speech in Communications
- Daniel tackled me in the snow on the way to class. (He did get snow in my...

Prom or That event that would have been more fun...
I just saw a reblogged post from Teen Vogue which suggested that this cute LBD (it was) would be perfect for prom. And I thought to myself, “Ha! I WISH I had worn an LBD to prom instead of those iridescent nightmares purchased at Famous Barr.” Does anyone remember watching the prom episode of Season 1 of Laguna Beach? I was a sophomore in college, and I distinctly remember...

2012 Goals
I’m not usually the best at resolutions, but this year is my golden year #28, and I think I’m ready to make some commitments. Below are a few of my goals for the year.
1. Create a space for myself in our guest bedroom that will allow me to be immersed in inspiring patterns, images, and words so that I can create. Something. Anything. Shoot maybe this weekend I will spend my...

Holiday Update
- Daniel and I spent Christmas Eve and Christmas with his family. We enjoyed dinners with grandparents, the second half of the play A Christmas Carol, and an afternoon of bowling.
- Last week was spent working from home, shopping for my family, and getting our house ready for our New Year’s Eve party.
- Friday was Second Christmas with my family. My niece Ellie was just a delight, and...

Unsolicited Advice to Mariah Carey
Mariah -
We go way back. To that Christmas when I was nine, and my poor cousin Jeremy, who is approximately eight years older than me, picked my name out of the hat and had to buy a present for a pre-teen he barely knew. He gifted me Music Box. I have to admit I was initially apprehensive, not being entirely familiar with your portfolio. I can assure you, though, that I gave it shot, and I...
